Polkagrisar
A polkagris is a type of hard candy consisting of water, sugar, (peppermint), glucose and vinegar. The classic version is bars with red-coloured batter mixed in. It gives a characteristic red-white-striped appearance. Polkagris is often associated with Gränna, where thousands of polka rice are produced every day. The polka dough is available in several flavours such as tutti frutti, strawberry, blueberry and raspberry. However, this is not a true polka rice, but is called a caramel stick. Polka dots are often associated with Christmas and can be used as Christmas tree decorations. A genuine Gränna polkagris is always white with red stripes!
